Five Days in Amader Out Patient Department

At the invitation of Dr PK Sarkar I spent a few days seeing patients and meeting the health staff at Amader Hospital in Fulberia Sarenga Village (Teghori GP, Chhatna Block) of Bankura District. The villagers are from the Kora Mudi community. It is near Susunia and Jhantipahari.

Gosaba and Aila

Red R (Registered Engineers for Disaster Relief) hired me to work in two assignments between June 22nd and October 3rd in Kolkata. During these consultancies I visited Gosaba and other parts of the Sunderbans in South (and sometimes North) 24 Parganas. My supervisor was Dr Kaninika Mitra of UNICEF.

IMNCI Health and Nutrition Training

This field training session was in Kachimoha village in Raiganj. The ASHA and Anganwadi workers trained were from Torial Panchayat in Chakulia (Goalpokhar II block) of Uttar Dinajpur, West Bengal.

Cancrum Oris or Noma

Another Malto patient from Sundarpahari who was seen by Soumik and Dr Satyendra Mishra. He may have Noma (also called Cancrum Oris). This is a gangrenous disease which responds to antibiotics in 90% cases. But it might be cancer of the lips. So the patient will have a biopsy and go to Chittaranjan Hospital in Kolkata for treatment.
